Feb. 7, 2011, NEW YORK—The Darkroom Monitor photo show, opening Feb. 11, at Pratt Institute-Manhattan explores themes of day and night and the quiet narratives that transcend the definitions of diurnal and nocturnal. An opening reception for the artists will be held Friday, Feb 11, from 6-8pm.

This show presents the work of seven photographers who have worked as part of a collective in the Pratt Manhattan darkroom, one of the few academic “wet” darkrooms left in the city. Many of the photographers have evolved to digital, but present in their yearly photo exhibitions a desire, if not yearning, the craft of making an image—whether that’s film or digital.

Show statement: “DAY/NIGHT, in a sense, represents our “black and white” photo world. It also presents themes of magic, revelation, patterning, life, death, destiny and the fragile surfaces under which they lurk.”

The artists, all living in New York, come from diverse international backgrounds. They are: Lana Bortolot, Shawn Escoffery, Mike Fernandez, Tonianne Fleig, Adolfo Gaviria, Federico Savini, and Liz Schnore.
